Harris Signs 4 Year Deal - 06/20/2008 01:46 PM
The Bears announced today that they have agreed to terms on a 4 year contract extention with tackle Tommie Harris. The deal is reportedly worth 40 million dollars which would make Harris the highest paid player in the NFL at that position.
Benson Released!! - 06/09/2008 8:03 PM
The Associated Press has reported that Cedric Benson has been released by the Bears. This is following Benson's second alcohol-related arrest in a span of a month. Benson never did live up to the expectations that were put on him with the 4th overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft.
This year's 2nd round pick, Matt Forte, is now the leading candidate to be the opening week running back for the Bears. With the improved O-line, the Bears will be relying on Forte to produce and produce big in his rookie season.
Bears cut Muhammad, Miller, Walker; extend A. Brown - 02/19/2008 7:03 AM
Yesterday, the Bears agreed to a new 2-year extension with defensive lineman Alex Brown and released 3 veteran players: receiver Muhsin Muhammad, offensive lineman Fred Miller and defensive lineman Darwin Walker.
Fred Miller and Darwin Walker are no big surprises. Both Miller and Walker were plagued by injuries this past season. Muhammad was a bit of a shocker. His performance has been anything but great (and not nearly enough to justify his huge contract), but the fact that he is the only legitimate wide receiver on the roster speaks highly on what this coaching staff thinks of Devin Hester as a receiver. Bernard Berrian and Rashied Davis are both free agents and likely to sign elsewhere this off-season. Right now, Hester and Mark Bradley just moved into the 1-2 receiver slots with Mike Hass being the only other receiver on the depth chart. Perhaps we will see more 2 tight-end sets with both Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark on the field at the same time.
The last 12 months for Alex Brown have been pretty crazy. Following last year's Super Bowl run of the Bears, Brown, who was a starting lineman on that team, figured the upcoming season would be one of his best. Lovie Smith and the coaching staff thought they'd go in a different direction and promoted the 2nd year lineman, Mark Anderson, into Brown's starting spot on the d-line. Brown made a few comments during training camp and actually requested a trade at one point, but finally realized that Chicago was the place he wanted to be and figured he'd do whatever he could to earn his starting spot back. Well, he did that and more. Brown was perhaps the biggest impact player on the defense this past season. He certainly put up the numbers. He was the only Bear to record a sack, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 2007. Peter Angelo and the coaching staff rewarded Brown with a 2 year extension that will keep him a bear until 2011.
Bears Fan Convention Info - 01/18/2008 1:27 PM
The Bears announced plans for their annual fan convention and the format is a bit different than in past years. This year, they are holding the event in Soldier Field rather than at a downtown Chicago hotel/convention center. The event will be held on June 7th and June 8th. More information will be coming soon.
4 Bears Selected for Pro Bowl - 12/19/2007 8:21 AM
Four Chicago Bears have been selected for the 2008 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Devin Hester, Brendon Ayanbadejo, Lance Briggs and Tommie Harris were all selected to participate in the Pro Bowl.
Hester was no-brainer. He has proven he is the most dangerous return man in the league. Ayanbadejo has also proven he is a standout special teams player and very deserving. Harris has been plagued by injuries the entire season but still has 7 sacks and is going to his 3rd straight Pro Bowl. Briggs is having a quality year and leads the team in tackles for loss.
Most notable are the 2 names that are not going to the Pro Bowl: Brian Urlacher and Olin Kruetz. Both those guys have been staples on the NFC Pro Bowl team for about the last 6 years. Urlacher has had an up and down season but some would argue that he has as good a year if not better than Briggs. And Kruetz not going is a tell tale sign of how far this team has fallen on the offensive side of the ball. Kruetz may be in Hawaii at the time (he lives there), but, as of now, he won't be playing in the game.
Week 14 Recap - Bears vs. Vikings - 12/18/2007 7:34 PM
Bears 13 Vikings 20
Well, at least now we don't have to listen the Lovie and the coaching staff humor us with their playoff talk anymore. The Bears are officially eliminated from the playoffs with their loss in Minnesota on Monday night.
The highlight of the Monday night matchup was Nathan Vasher intercepting a pass in his first start since week 3 and nearly taking it to the house. That would lead to the Bears only touchdown of the game, a Jason McKie 1 yard run, his first career rushing touchdown. The Bears defense would have one of their best games of the season, they just could not overcome the offense's inability to keep possession of the football. Brian Urlacher had one of his best stat lines as a Bear: 2 sacks, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble. The offense was just too overmatched and could not put any points on the board.
The loss was their 3rd straight in what has been an extremely disappointing season. The only hope is that we can salvage a victory against Green Bay on Sunday and sweep that series to have some ammo against all those Packer fans that are coming out of the woodwork again this year (funny how that happens).
"Kyle is our Quarterback" - 12/12/2007 2:34 PM
When the Bears announced earlier this week that Kyle Orton would be their starting QB for their week 14 game vs. Minnesota, it marked the first time in the Lovie Smith/Ron Turner era that they finally made a smart decision based off of performance on the field. Every year we heard how there was going to be competition for quarterback during training camp...not true. That was always Rex Grossman's job to lose. Right or wrong, we may never know, but the point being that personnel decisions were not made based on the player's performance on the field.
The benching (if you will) of Brian Griese is the first sign that this coaching staff may be feeling the pressure to impress not only the fans, but their bosses as well. Griese was already given an opportunity this season to prove that he should be the Bears #1 starting QB. Apparently, he did not pass. Now it's Orton's turn.
Orton To Start! - 12/10/2007 8:26 pm
The Bears announced today that Kyle Orton is going to get the start when the team travels up to Minnesota for the Monday night showdown on December 17th. Brian Griese replaced the injured Rex Grossman against Washington last week. Griese was given the starting job earlier in the season when Grossman was benched due to poor performance.
Grossman Injury Update - 12/07/2007 4:22 PM
The Chicago Tribune has reported that Grossman's knee injury is not as serious as originally thought. An MRI on his knee showed that the MCL ligament is only sprained and not torn. The injury will likely sideline Grossman at least a month which would put an end to his 2007 season and possibly his career in Chicago.
Week 13 Recap - Bears vs. Redskins - 12/07/2007 7:14 AM
Bears 16 Redskins 24
A bad game by the offensive line (what's new there) did the Bears in last night agains the Washington Redskins. If the Bears wanted any chance of making the playoffs this season, they needed to win convincingly last night at FedEx Field in Maryland. The weather conditions were cold, but that's no reason why the Bears ground game came off the bus and rushed for only 60 yards on 24 carries - a brutal 2.5 yards per carry. Had it not been for Garrett Wolfe "breaking" an 11 yard run in the 4th quarter, those numbers would be even worse.
Rex Grossman left the game in the first quarter with a knee injury and was replaced by Brian Griese who threw for 295 yards and a touchdown. He did have 2 costly interceptions late in the 2nd quarter, one of them leading to a Redskins touchdown.
The defense showed signs of life but still could not come up with the big stop and the big take-away which was the key to their success last season. The Redskins and backup QB Todd Collins seemed to be able to convert and come up with a big play whenever they needed to. Alex Brown looked really sharp again and is making a strong case for the Bears to bring him back next season.
Bears vs. Redskins - Game Update - 12/06/2007 09:14 PM
Rex Grossman has left tonight''s game against the Redskins with an apparent knee injury. Grossman took a shot in the first quarter and was slow getting up. He eventually walked off the field under his own power but was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game. The extent of the injury is unknown.
Bears vs. Redskins Injury Report - 12/06/2007 03:16 PM
Yahoo Sports has reported that Anthony Adams is out for tonight's game with an elbow injury and that Nathan Vasher is doubtful to play with his partially torn groin muscle. Brandon McGowan is expected to get his 2nd straight start at strong safety after replacing the ineffective Adam Archuleta last week against the Giants.

Week 12 Game Recap - 12/02/2007 8:19 PM
Bears 16 Giants 21 Call it a Giant comeback, call it missed opportunities, call it whatever you want. In the end, the Bears lost in week 12 to the New York Giants by a final of 21-16. The Bears are now two games under .500 with a 5-7 record and are looking up at every other team in the NFC North Division. Some say their playoff hopes are still alive, but with four teams at 6-6 and four other teams at 5-7, the Bears have their work cut out for them if they want to squeak in.
Following a Brian Urlacher interception on the Giant's opening drive of the game, Rex Grossman and the offense looked great in the no-huddle and marched all the way down to field to go on top 7-0. Ron Turner and coaching staff would not bring back the no-huddle until the 4th quarter. Later in the first half, Devin Hester had an opportunity to come up big when he got behind the secondary on a fly pattern, but he let the potential 80 yard pass play bounce of his shoulder pad. Hester was still a factor in that he forced a couple of kickoffs to go out of bounds and the Bears still had great field position on a lot of drives.
The Giants and Derrick Ward would run the ball all afternoon and finally punch it in to make the score 7-7 before Robbie Gould hit a couple of field goals to make it 13-7 at halftime. In the second half, the Bears let an opportunity slip away when Terrence Metcalf had a stupid personal foul penalty that backed the Bears up and forced another Gould field goal to make it 16-7. In the 4th quarter, the Giants drove down the field and had a goal-to-go chance when Eli Manning bounced the ball to Amani Toomer for a touchdown. The play was originally ruled incomplete by the ref but "after further review", the call was reversed and the touchdown was given to the Giants to make it 16-14. Following another Bears 3-and-out, the Giants drove down the field again and had the ball at the goal line with under 2 minutes to play. Rueben Droughns scampered in to put the Giants on top for good. The Bears got the ball back and Grossman got them down into Giants territory only to miss on three shots into the end zone.
Breaking News about Bears starting lineup! - 12/02/2007 12:34 AM
The Score 670 is reporting that Adam Archuleta has been benched!! Bears strong safety, Adam Archuleta, who was brought in as free agent in the offseason, is not in the starting lineup today. Archuleta will be replaced in the lineup at by Brandon McGowan.
Cedric Benson placed in Injured Reserve - 11/28/2007 12:57 AM
The Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning, the Chicago Bears announced that Cedric Benson has been placed on IR, officially ending his 2007 season.
Week 11 Game Recap - 11/25/2007 9:14 PM
Bears 37 Broncos 34 (OT)
Devin Hester is really amazing. Hester return a punt 75 yards for a touchdown and then later returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score. Both touchdowns tied the score of the game at the time. Devin was incredible this game, but the Bears offense did show what they are capable of scoring two touchdowns in the final 5 minutes to tie the game and send it into overtime. The last score coming on a 4th and goal when Berrian made a diving grab in the corner of the endzone to tie the game.
Overtime started out with the Bears winning the coin toss and then Grossman hitting Desmond Clark for a 40 yard pass play to setup Robbie Gould's game winning field goal. This was a game the Bears really had no right to win. They turned the ball over 4 times and got out-grained by the Broncos 430-293. The Bears playoff hopes are still alive at 5-6 but they still have a tough hill to climb. Cedric Benson also left the game in the first half with an apparent leg injury.
